Rep. Thaddeus McCotter Is A Disgrace To The State Of Michigan

Right-wing nuts, led by Fox News (the far right’s biased media megaphone), have been fighting to keep the issue race issue involving the arrest of Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr. in the public eye to try and score political points with white voters. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, taking a break from solving some very real problems that plague those of us who live in the great (although economically-troubled) state of Michigan, is drafting a useless resolution to try and make the president of the United States of America apologize to McCotter’s satisfaction. It’s a waste of time and it goes to show how right wingers are attempting to use this as a political tool. These right wingers don’t give a damn about Sgt. James Crowley (he’s just a pawn they’re using to attack President Obama), the very real problem of racial profiling or Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Here is text of McCotter’s dumb resolution (that is an irresponsible waste of time involving, primarily, three people):

Whereas on July 16, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis (”Skip”) Gates, Jr. about a suspected break-in in progress at his residence, which had been broken into on a prior occasion;

Whereas on July 22, 2009, in responding to a question during a White House press conference President Barack Obama stated: “Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here. I don’t know all of the facts involved in this local police response incident”;

Whereas President Obama proceeded to state Sergeant Crowley “acted stupidly” for arresting Professor Gates on charges of disorderly conduct;

Whereas, as a former Constitutional Law Professor, President Obama well understands that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and their actions should not be prejudged prior to being fully and fairly judged by an appropriate and objective authority after due process;

Whereas, President Obama’s nationally televised remarks may likely detrimentally influence the full and fair judgment by an appropriate and objective authority after due process regarding this local police response incident and, thereby, impair Sergeant Crowley’s legal and professional standing in relation to said incident; and

Whereas, President Obama appeared at a daily White House Press briefing on July 24, 2009 to address his denouncement of Sergeant Crowley and stated: “I could have calibrated those words differently” but “I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Professor Gates out of his home to the station.”

Whereas, President Obama’s refusal to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Sergeant Crowley and, instead, reiterate his accusation impugning Sergeant Crowley’s professional conduct in the performance of his duties;

Now therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

Calls upon President Obama to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident.

This guy has disgraced the state of Michigan and sought to exploit the unfortunate incident between Henry Louis Gates and Sgt. James Crowley to take a political shot at President Obama.

This guy is symbolic of opportunistic Republicans eager to keep this issue alive to try and portray President Obama as some black, anti-police radical.

McCotter, and those like him, are enablers of racial profiling. They take everything the police say at face value and virtually ignore anything that comes from the other side of an arrest or conflict with the police.

Now, consider this idiotic statement from Jameson Cunningham, minister of propagandapress secretary for McCotter:

“He has said he will introduce the legislation if the President does not retract and apologize for his comments,”said Jameson Cunningham, press secretary for McCotter, when asked if Obama had already addressed his concerns. “As of now, no apology has been issued.”

That sounds like a threat to me.

This Republican is trying to show President Obama his place, and it has a familiar feel to it.

You may be a Journalist. But at the same time I would like to say, your a onesided journalist. What has happened to the integrity of the press? Obama made a mistake. He never should have said anything. He blew it. No one else did this to him or for him. HE was prepped before the so called press conferance on the possibility of this question coming up. McCotter is the only one fighting for our state, with Mike Rogers and Dave Camp. If I am to believe what you are saying here, I guess your loving the Liberal Utopia, that our state is enjoying right now, as we have reached a 17% unemployment rate. Who is running our state? LIBERALS - Granholm is at the head of the line. Stick to the issues, instead of feeding off the frenzy yourself. Have some integrity. Because Sir, your playing the card yourself.

A few comments:
1. I am not a journalist anymore and even if I was this is a blog with my personal opinions.
2. I am not necessarily a big fan of Jennifer Granholm nor some other so-called liberals like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer. So, you will find it difficult to pigeonhole me.
3. I am not really buying into your irrational talking points (liberal utopia ... my goodness).
4. President Obama did make a mistake in the way he phrased it, but he his heart was in the right place.
5. President Obama was well within his rights to speak out and to stand up for his friend, who was ridiculously arrested by an arrogant cop (even if he has a solid record).
6. I rarely play cards and the last time I did I plaayed Go Fish.

Forgot to mention. McCotter is a bad joke and an opportunist trying to exploit this case to score political points.

Sandy, Attitudes like yours are the reason i left that sad sack of a town. Detroit has a victim mentality that will never go away and people like you will use it to prop yourself up as some sort of authority. Rep. McCotter wants and appology because the president spoke out about something he admittedly knew nothing about. He said i don't know the facts in this case.... and the next words should have been, so i will have no comment. Instead he he said the cops screwed up.. Really? I don't know the fact of the case but I KNOW the cops screwed up. ya i respect that opinion. And the next time you pour on the old poor me BS why don't you do some real research.. you apparently have a background in journalism. even opinion journalism would require you to look at more than second hand opinion peaces from liberal web sites. You didn't even link to the actual police report and it's readily available. Do your job!! I can see why you left it out.. doesn't really support you opinion very well.. Oh Well, sucks to be you sometimes.

As for Rep. McCotter.. he is the only guy working for your sad state. for some reason he believes in it still. You should thank him for all he does to promote Michigan and all it's people.. You have alot of "rightwingers" who like him and therefore like Michigan more than they otherwise would. He is on TV constantly promoting the auto industry and sticking up for the unions.. Just say Thank You and then shut your trap. Or keep on talking and show yourself the thankless ass you are.

McCotter is a nut and he is probably not unlike foul-mouthed and anonymous cowards like you who take shots at people and use pathetic language knowing their identity is concealed. That is pretty week. I can respect McCotter because at least he has his name behind it. But you are weak and speaking about someone you know nothing about.

The only reason I published your comment is so people can see the kinds of trolls who come through here with filthy mouths and bad attitudes.

After reading your comment again I just lost even more respect for you. I don't think I should read it again.

Besides, this is an old issue.
