Charles Barkley Puts The Verbal Smackdown On Tucker Carlson

This is how the website Crooks and Liars described Charles Barkley's words directed at Tucker Carlson who had harsh comments directed at Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (before he slightly walked back from those harsh words).

"There's some idiot on another station named Tucker Carlson, who called out Michael Vick," Barkley said during halftime of a game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks.

"Number one, Michael Vick, we're all pulling for you, man. Keep doing your thing, you paid your debt to society, good luck to y'all in the playoffs."

"Tucker Carlson, who's a nobody, he used to work for us over here, we fired him, because he sucked. Now he goes over there ... He said Michael Vick should be executed, which is total B.S.," he continued.

"TV is a very powerful thing, but you just can't get on here and say anything. He should have never said that. Michael Vick paid his debt to society and we're all pulling for him," Barkley added.

Charles Barkley, Others Continue To Unfairly Smear So-Called Bad Boys

I’m always amused at some of the people I hear who badmouth the Detroit Pistons teams of the late 80s and early 90s … the so-called Bad Boys (far more of a marketing scheme to sell T-shirts and posters than the reality of what those Detroit teams were truly about on the hardwood). Former NBA star Charles Barkley was on TNT (while offering his impressions of the late Chuck Daly) calling the so-called Bad Boys a dirty team and wondering aloud how someone as nice as Chuck Daly could have coached the so-called Bad Boys. Now, Barkley was no saint as a player (it’s not like he was playing flag basketball out there) and he also played with Rick Mahorn (one of the so-called Bad Boys) when they played together in Philadelphia. Did Bill Laimbeer look like he was out there trying to inflict some pain onsome people from time to time? Yeah, it sure as hell looked like it. Did Dennis Rodman and Mahorn take shots at people and use acts of intimidation from time to time? Sure they did. But, there were also men like Joe Dumars, John Salley, James Edwards, Vinnie Johnson, Adrian Dantley, Mark Aguirre and others who played roles on those teams and were not “dirty” players, but often are mischaracterized as such (through association). For as much as people do not like Hall of Fame guard Isiah Thomas, he was not out there trying to hurt his opponents. He played physical, he played tough and he would get in your face. But, was he a dirty basketball player … I don’t think so. Does Charles think John Stockton and Karl Malone were dirty players? A lot of people think both were dirty, but the Utah Jazz never had that reputation. It’s a blurred line between physical and dirty. That much I will concede. But, to smear good guys like Dumars, Dantleyand others is just plain wrong. People ignore the skill, will to win and preparedness of those Detroit teams because they’re so caught up in the Bad Boys marketing scheme. So, in a sense that marketing campaign had its positives and negatives. Still, it’s sad when the perceived negatives outweigh the positive and fantastic accomplishments of a team led by Hall of Fame guards and a Hall of Fame coach.
