More Far-Right Extremism In The News … This Time It’s Hal Turner

The infamous Hal Turner, a Neo-Nazi commentator through various mediums, finds himself in some hot water again these days:

CHICAGO, June 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/– Hal Turner, an intermittent Internet radio talk show host and blogger, was arrested today by FBI agents at his home in North Bergen, N.J., on a federal complaint filed in Chicago alleging that he made Internet postings threatening to assault and murder three federal appeals court judges in Chicago in retaliation for their recent ruling upholding handgun bans in Chicago and a suburb.

Turner, who has had an association over the years with Fox News conservative host Sean Hannity, was cuffed up by the Feds.

Yeah, it was interesting when all of those people slammed Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the Obama Administration for the release of the report on extremism.

Included in the report was this:

Gun-related violence: “Heightened interest in legislation for tighter firearms…may be invigorating rightwing extremist activity, specifically the white supremacist and militia movements.”

More on Hal Turner from Wikipedia:

Harold Charles “Hal” Turner is an American white nationalist and white supremacist from North Bergen, New Jersey. He runs his program, The Hal Turner Show, as a webcast from his home once a week, and depends on donations from his listeners. He quit the show in July 2008 and resumed in April 2009. In August 2008 his website also closed down, though he retains a blog, though currently that presence was shut down by his host, Google’s Blogger, for violations of terms of service.

Southern Poverty Law Center Documents Some Of The Hatred Toward President Obama

Historically, the Southern Poverty Law Center has done amazing work combating hate and creating awareness about hate groups and trends in hate around the United States.

Here are some comments from racist nuts (in regard to the election of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States) compiled by SPLC:

“I believe tonight is a night of tragedy and sadness for our people… . [T]he country is not recognizable any more.”
— Former Klan leader David Duke

“Someone will kill him! And I will celebrate!”
—Neo-Nazi activist Hal Turner

“I consider this to be the darkest day in American history since the end of the Civil War. They might as well have put Bin Laden in the White House.”
—Comment posted in an online forum of the Traditional Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan

“An Obama presidency … will only intensify racial polarization and stimulate greater white racial consciousness and self-assertiveness. More of the sleepers will waken.”
—Greg Johnson writing in The Occidental Quarterly, a far-right race journal

“[T]he next four years could prove to be the biggest bonanza ever for open borders advocates.”
—Federation for American Immigration Reform, a nativist hate group

“It could mean an awakening of our spirit and blood. Every time the television shows an image of Obama, it will be a reminder that our people have lost power in this country.”
—Thom Robb, national director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan

If you think these men are so far out of the mainstream, don’t be so sure. Turner, as an example, has had an association over the years with Sean Hannity, a prominent Fox News talk show host.

Sean Hannity Associate And Neo Nazi Hal Turner Has Troubles

Fox News talk show host Sean Hannity, who has a well-documented history of association with Neo-Nazi Hal Turner, received some news about a guy he has a history of palling around with (to borrow a saying from another of Hannity’s buddies, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin).

Reporting that “reactionary radio host and white supremacist Hal Turner was taken into custody Wednesday after remarks urging Catholics to ‘take up arms’ against two Connecticut lawmakers and a state ethics official over legislation… regarding the church,” independent news outlet Raw Story’s John Byrne (6/4/09) deepens the story by recalling that “Turner used to be a regular on Sean Hannity’s radio show (the Fox News pundit)”:

When Hannity said he didn’t have an association with Turner earlier this year, Turner wrote:

I was quite disappointed when Sean Hannity at first tried to say he didn’t know me and then went on to say that I ran some senate campaign in New Jersey. In fact, Sean Hannity does know me and we were quite friendly a number of years ago.

When Hannity took over Bob Grant’s spot on 77 WABC in New York City, I was a well-known, regular and welcome caller to his show. Through those calls, Sean and I got to know each other a bit and at some point, I can’t remember exactly when, Sean gave me the secret “Guest call-in number” at WABC so that my calls could always get on the air.
