That line was crossed as the result of a Playboy article that was published (it has since been taken down and now is difficult to find) on the Web by Guy Cimbalo. The article is about the right-wing women he would like to “hate f**k.” Since it has been taken down, following a growing national outrage, I have only read bits and pieces of it. That was more than enough for me. Frankly, it’s painful to imagine some people might actually find such an article an entertaining read. The article singled out prominent right-wing women, mocked them and attacked them in misogynistic and hateful fashion.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the women singled out in the ridiculous Playboy article, understandably objected and made her feelings felt on a recent episode of “The View.”
Now, I don’t often agree with a lot of what Elisabeth Hasselbeck has to say (from a political standpoint), but I could not agree more with the outrage she expressed over the article being published online. So, on this one, I’ve got her back. Such words and imagery bring into focus violence and overly-aggressive behavior toward women that could ultimately prove dangerous.
While it’s good Playboy took it down, but it’s puzzling that this hate piece was posted in the first place. I don’t agree that it makes Playboy.com a hate site, but I think it brings into question the judgement and character of people in decision-making positions within the organization.
It was disappointing Hasselbeck used the article as an opportunity to take a politically-motivated shot at the National Organization for Women (NOW), but maybe it is somewhat understandable after being smeared by a Playboy writer in such a hateful fashion.
