Black Conservatives Absurdly Try To 'Andrew Breitbart' President Obama

This story is so ridiculous and absurd that I was not even going to write about it until two names jumped into my head: Andrew Breitbart and Shirley Sherrod.

By now, we've all been witness to Breitbart, the conservative propagandist, using an out-of-context video clip to try and portray Sherrod as a racist.

Well, friends, it's happening again on a more low-key scale as conservatives look for more political weapons (preferably racial ones) to use against President Obama.

The latest has to do with an innocuous comment the president made during a visit on "The View" as he spoke on the subject of racial identity.

First, lets go to the video:



This was in no way meant to be derogatory and only the most obsessive Obama hater (weakly attempting to portray him as taking a shot at black people) would view it in such a fashion.

Mongrel is a word that can be interpreted in ways that are harmless and harmful (it's all in the mind and heart of the person who says it and the person who interprets it). It is true that in the past it has been used by racists as a weapon of attack against people of color. But, remember, a knife can be used to slice cheese or it can be used to kill. Obviously, the president has to be careful with his words when dealing with people who are ignorant or have sinister motives.

President Obama, by any clear-thinking person, did not mean it in a derogatory way. Instead, he was attempting to show that we are more alike than we are different because man of us have been blood of different races running through us.

BUT, why let logic and context get in the way of a good smear. Learning nothing from Andrew Breitbart's pathetic attack on Shirley Sherrod using out-of-context comments, conservative blacks have been on the attack against the president.

Like a boxer trailing on all scorecards and needing a knockout to win late in the 12th round, they are swinging recklessly and wildly hoping to inflict damage in any way possible.

Here are some samples from the blog Booker Rising, a site (one I visit frequently to get a variety of perspectives on issues) dedicated mostly to conservative black opinion (which I once had).

The moderate Republican commentator in Maryland writes: "I do not like being categorized as a mongrel. It is a ridiculous and insulting statement. If George W. Bush, or another white politician said those words, the NAACP, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be all over the airwaves calling for a public apology. I am not part of a 'mongrel people.' This is not how you have a discussion on race relations. I expect better judgment from the President of the United States. If this is how he sees African-Americans, perhaps it is time for them to find a new candidate."

Sandra Rose, a conservative blogger in metro Atlanta, Ga., writes: "U.S. president Barack Obama appeared on ‘The View’ and promptly stirred up a hornet’s nest of controversy when he referred to blacks as 'a sort of mongrel people.' For those who aren’t familiar with the term: a mongrel is a type of dog that is considered undesirable among breeders because its breed can not easily be determined. It is highly insulting to refer to human beings as mongrels."

The conservative blogger in Kansas argues that the president using the term in an already racially charged atmosphere was "retarded": "If I’m not mistaken folks a mongrel is a type of dog that is considered undesirable among breeders because its breed can not easily be determined. It is not highly insulting to refer to human beings as mongrels? Please if I wrong folks let your boy know. This is why dude uses a teleprompter because his [brain] is completely incapable of speaking unscripted. I’m just amazed....but not surprised I never thought he was very bright and even as I type this I continue to marvel at just how gullible or clueless you white people were in voting for the moronic f___k."

OK, that is enough of these player-hating idiots. You get the picture.

These people are doing the same thing that Andrew Breitbart did to Shirley Sherrod. They grab something taken out of its context without taking time to fully understand and appreciate the actual point and then using it to mischaracterize and demonize.

The only thing worse than a bigot is a stupid one that can't learn from the obvious.

Divisive Conservative Tries To Drive Wedge Between People, Attacks President As 'Obama Hussein'

Once in a while I read an article, column or whatever, and am left to shake my head in disappointment at the kinds of thoughts that swim through the heads of my fellow citizens.

This all brings me to a rather hateful piece written by a woman named Lisa Carter. Now, for the record, I do not necessarily have a problem with black conservatives or conservatives in general. Once upon a time, I was a conservative.

But, articles like the one (a rather brief one) I am going to fully quote make me question why more people do not stand up to this kind of divisive us-against-them talk.

Here is the first part I am going to excerpt:

It's disappointing enough that our elected officials in Los Angeles are putting the rights of criminal illegal aliens ahead of true American citizens. However, when the federal government decides to sue the state of Arizona for trying to protect itself from criminal illegal aliens from Mexico, something has gone wrong.

According to the Los Angeles Times (not always a reliable source), the Obama Hussein administration is expected to file a lawsuit aimed at blocking the state's bid to curb illegal immigration on its own, according to people familiar with the administration's plans.

"Obama Hussein" shows how much of a hater this woman is and it also shows as much right off the bat. So, relatively early in her piece, she panders to the bigotry that exists in too many people on the far right who hate President Obama and have tried to use his name and the fact that his father was an African against him.

Here is the second part:

To uneducated illegal Mexicans who rape American culture, values, education, and finances, this is good news. To hard-working legal citizens, many who are of Mexican descent, this is an act of treason. 2012 can't come fast enough!

She resorts to bigoted, immature and dangerous stereotypes of Mexicans to make her face. She then sort of suggests that they are not hard working by putting emphasis on people legally in the country she describes as "hard-working legal citizens." To try and deflect from her obvious bigotry, she weakly slips in a part about the "legal" Mexicans (FAIL).

This was a disturbing piece to read and I hope it is not indicative of who she is as a person.

Targeting Latinos With Arizona Law ... Conservatives Amazingly Accuse Others Of Racial Politics

Some people just make you shake your head (beginning with the puzzling decision to use President Obama's middle name for no apparent rhyme or reason). The headline of the article is "Obama values Latino votes over safety of American citizens." The depth and breadth of the ignorance of such a statement is nearly beyond comprehension.

It's appalling to make such a suggestion when President Obama is justifiably concerned about how counterproductive this law is with respect to Latinos.

Instead of working for true immigration reform, campaign-year Republicans are attempting to divide Americans on an emotional issue by pushing forward this draconian law that could lead to a legalized form of racial profiling.

Barack Hussein Obama has really given new meaning to the term "socialist." He has now put 1,200 troops on the border, but has insisted to Mexico that the troops won't be used to stop criminal illegal aliens. Apparently, it doesn't matter when criminal illegal aliens destroy the value of American education, rape the welfare system and fly Mexican flags in favor of the American flag. Our forefathers must be spinning in their graves.

It's interesting to hear the term "socialist" from this writer, who again resorts to a word similar to what was used to attack people during the Civil Rights era.

The stupidity of the excerpt (and its headline) cited above is that it assumes that those who are against the Arizona legalized harassment law are somehow in favor of open borders and crime sprees for illegal aliens. Some have demonized illegal immigrants as dangerous criminals and cast a dark cloud (no pun intended) over all Latinos to be treated as suspect - guilty unless or until proven innocent in a show-me-your-papers state.

It's ridiculous.

Detroit Takes Its Fair Share Of Shots, But Political Parties Has Nothing To Do With It

The city of Detroit has taken its fair share of criticism over the decades as urban decay has inflicted major damage on what was once one of the great cities in the United States of America. But, this particular blog really caught my eyes and not just because I am a native of the city of Detroit and someone who still has family that lives in Motown. And, for some reason, this blog seemed to strike a raw nerve with me.

The blog Booker Rising, which positions itself as a moderate/conservative blog, kicked off its Detroit-bashing piece with this statement:

The London Times (UK) puts the spotlight on Detroit, Michigan, USA, a liberal-Democratic-controlled city that has had socialist impulses for some time and that's been in decline for decades.

Tina Turner would ask, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" I would ask, what point does it serve to refer to Detroit as "a liberal-Democratic-controlled city that has had socialist impulses for some time and has been in decline for decades." That's some bullshit. Now, the city has been in decline for decades due to a number of reasons.

But, to use the plight of Detroit to attack liberal Democrats is weak as hell.

Being A Black Conservative Is OK, But Being Pimped By Glenn Beck Is Foul

First and foremost, I have no problem with black people or anyone else who is a conservative on the political landscape.

But, when I saw a group of blacks taking part in a sort of black conservative summit on Fox News, I nearly threw up. I nearly vomited as I saw that Fox news right-wing nut Glenn Beck was leading this little forum. Frankly, I think it’s cool that black conservatives should have a forum and not be silenced due to intimidation. Sometimes unfairly (though not always), blacks who are conservatives are branded as sellouts by the majority of blacks who tend to support left-wing politics.

But, in all honesty, watching Glenn Beck lead this discussion involving black conservative turns my stomach. These black conservatives were used as props by Glenn Beck (even though I do think black conservatives should be heard from a lot more).

Seriously, can someone tell me where Kanye West was and why he did not emerge from the crowd or from back stage to grab someone’s microphone and bring this televised sham to a screeching halt?

It would have been perfect Kanye to interrupt.

I’ve heard some people refer to this as a town hall meeting and I’ve heard others refer to it as a plantation gathering.

One of the biggest problems I have with these black conservatives is they are legitimizing Glenn Beck and his divisive rhetoric. Obviously, not all black men and women have to support President Obama anymore than all white people had to support President Bush or President Clinton. But, to take a forum like this, on a network as divisive (especially racially) as Fox News is a slap in the face to a lot of black people who are sick of the racial politics being played by Republicans.

It’s a shame these black Republicans will not speak out – AND STRONGLY – against the hateful and racist images we’ve seen at these tea party protests. By not speaking out, black conservatives are essentially endorsing the racist and hateful images we’ve seen directed at President Obama. You don’t have to support President Obama, politically, to say “no” to racism at these tea parties and the racial politics being used against black people by even conservative Republican politicians.

I could certainly feel a lot more respect for black conservatives if they stood up against the racism, homophobia and more coming from the far right and the racial politics being played by a good number of Republicans.

Dislike President Obama all you want, but I call on black conservatives to come out and strongly denounce the hate coming from the far right.

The problem is black conservatives run away from race (practically yelling and screaming).

Many are in the racial denial stage.

The unwillingness of conservative blacks to confront such issues does little to solve so much of what continues to divide us.

I will leave you with this from the great blog The Field Negro who named the blacks who were in the audience and a part of the panel as “House Negroes Of The Day” on his blog site. Here is an excerpt from a blog entry by FN:

Still, I am glad for you folks and the fact that you got your shine on. Just be careful where that shine is coming from. (I once represented a guy who was on an episode of Cops. I am just sayin.) If you think Glen Beck is really your friend and that he really has your best interest at heart, go on and represent on his show. It might make you famous. Hell, you might even get a gig on Radio Rwanda. If, on the other hand, you are just trying to get your shine on, there has to be a better way. You don’t want to be just props to further someone’s agenda. Where did I hear that before? Oh yeah, I think it was “Gump” over at Crooks & Liars. Gump doesn’t sound so scared to me.

“Let’s bring in a bunch of blackies as props to further an agenda. It really doesn’t get much more racist than this segment. Stop it Gump, those are my cousins you are talking about. You pick on one of us, you will have to pick on us all. They were not “props”, they did it for their people. They did it for America.

It’s too bad someone else could not have hosted such a forum. It could have been far more meaningful.
