Did Newt Gingrich Attack Former President Ronald Reagan?

Conservative commentator Newt Gingrich, in his zest to attack President Barack Obama, launched an attack that might have stuck an unintended victim – the late former president Ronald Reagan. It’s sad that Gingrich would take such a nasty shot at President Reagan and President Obama.

GINGRICH: Let me be clear. I am not a citizen of the world! I think the entire concept is intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous.

Nice fear-mongering by Gingrich who, like so many conservatives, plays the fear card by saying garbage like “stunningly dangerous.”

Check out the video at Daily Kos:

Just to clarify (with the words of Ronald Reagan on June 19, 1982 at the United Nations):

REAGAN: I speak today as both a citizen of the United States and of the world. … My people have sent me here today to speak for them as citizens of the world, which they truly are, for we Americans are drawn from every nationality represented in this chamber today.

Gingrich spins like a top, and will find some way of spinning his butt out of this.

Newt Gingrich’s Words Are Part Of The Reason America Is Disliked

Right-wing talker Newt Gingrich’s words express a big part of the reason that so many people around the world dislike the United States of America.

Here are some of his words:

GINGRICH: Let me be clear. I am not a citizen of the world. I think the entire concept is intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous. There is no world sovereignty. There is no world system of law. There is in fact no circumstance under which I would like to be a citizen of North Korea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Cuba, or Russia. I am a citizen — I am a citizen of the United States of America, and the rest of this speech is about the United States of America.

People view us, as Americans, as arrogant and self righteous. It’s almost understandable why our worldwide neighbors view us that way when you hear words like that from Gingrich, who acts as if being a citizen of the world is some kind of a dirty thing.

Good neighbors don’t look down on the people around them.
