Growing up in Detroit, Ernie Harwell was the voice of the Detroit Tigers. His voice w
as second-to-none for a man who was a living and breathing encyclopedia of baseball.Mr. Harwell, A Hall-of-Fame announcer and man, truly was a living legend.
Tonight, at the age of 92 following a yearlong bout with cancer, Mr. Harwell has passed away. It's a sad day for those who loved baseball and Mr. Harwell's greatness that extended well beyond the baseball diamond. His contributions to baseball and his contributions to society will forever be missed.
We will miss you terribly Mr. Harwell, but you will never be forgotten.
