Selig Shows His Weakness In Arizona Controversy

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has shown his weakness in refusing to deal with the growing problem with Arizona's draconian immigration laws.

Here is an excerpt from a CBS News (Sports)-published story from Associated Press:

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is ignoring calls to move next year's All-Star game from Phoenix because of Arizona's new immigration law.

Asked about such demands at a news conference Thursday following an owners meeting, he responded with a defense of baseball's record on minority hiring.

"Apparently all the people around and in minority communities think we're doing OK. That's the issue, and that's the answer," he said. "I told the clubs today: 'Be proud of what we've done.' They are. We should. And that's our answer. We control our own fate, and we've done very well."

What is Selig talking about?

Selig's response is gutless and weak. He needs to step up and at least be man enough to discuss the issue head on. Instead, he starts going off on a strange track about minority hiring.

What the hell does minority hiring have to do with the issues of Arizona's outrageous law that dangerously targets Latinos?

Biased Fox News Sinks To Another Low Smearing President Obama

Fox News and Fox Nation appear to be exploiting what may be a young girl in an effort to smear President Obama with a misleading photo snapped at the G8 summit in Italy.

This is from a Media Matters for America story:

After a Free Republic member posted a Reuters photo described as “U.S. President Barack Obama (C) and France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy (R) tak[ing] their places with junior G8 delegates for a family photo at the G8 summit in L’Aquila, Italy,” Matt Drudge promoted the same photo. Subsequently, ABC News’ Jake Tapper, Fox News, and the New York Post followed their lead, highlighting the photo onlineand on screen, in some cases with provocative, needling, or scoldingcommentary. But a review of the video, which the media promoting the photo either did not watch or did not allow to give pause, makes clear that Obama was attempting to navigate high steps, while reaching back to help someone behind him do so as well. As Fox News host Greta Van Susteren said after airing video of the event, “Yes, a still picture can lie. And this one does.”

As Media Matters for America has documented, media figures previously attacked Obama based on an interpretation of a photograph that was similarly disproved by video evidence.

Even Van Susteren admits that the photo is misleading, but that has never stopped the majority of people at right-leaning Fox News from doing whatever it takes to smear the president.

How sad Fox, aided by Drudge Report, is resorting to garbage like this to attack the president.

Weak, weak, weak …

Media Matters does good work unraveling this manufactured controversy to show just how misleading the photo is and to show just how pitiful these conservatives are to reach for something stupid like this to attack the president.

This is awfully weak … even by Fox News standards.
