I Can't Wait To See Chiraq, But I Can Wait To See Chiraq

I've long been a fan of Spike Lee movies. Now, in that time, I've seen some of Spike's movies that are great (Malcolm X and Do The Right Thing) and some ones that, to me, were not so good (Red Hook Summer). I've also watched some underrated films, by Spike (Get on the Bus and School Daze).

That all being said, I look forward to seeing the movie Chiraq. Obviously, the title is provocative. But, I look forward to absorbing the actual messages within the film that many of Spike's movies feature.

As I was taking advantage of my Amazon Prime account, the movie popped up as a pay film. Apparently, I will be able to watch it as part of my subscription next month. I am willing to wait a month, but I look forward to seeing it.

Movies with this level of controversy make me even more interested -- especially when it comes to Spike Lee movies. A lightning rod for controversy throughout his career, Spike knows how to generate some hype -- intentionally or unintentionally -- for his projects.

Many times, you hear people talk about the bad relationship situations the find themselves in at times in their life.

Are bad relationships a matter of circumstances? Or, are bad relationships the product of our own bad decisions?

Amber Rose And The Power Of Confidence

I'm not even gonna lie to you ... I'm part of the Amber Rose fan club. (Full disclosure: If she has a real fan club, I am not a part of that  ... although I would welcome such an opportunity if fan clubs are still a thing).

Amber has the obvious physical sex appeal. It helps her garner a lot of attention. Unfortunately, some people get so caught up on her physical attributes that they miss the bigger and more important points that she makes.

Steve Harvey Teaches Women About Men

I have to admit, when I saw the CNN headline I was more than a little intrigued to here from Steve Harvey, the love daddy. Harvey was working with Oprah and talking to single women about how to deal with men. It’s an intriguing article. I was particularly amused by the following excerpt:

Lynell says she’s looking for a God-fearing, spontaneous African-American millionaire with straight teeth and nice shoes who wants children…among other things.

“That would be the Lord,” Steve jokes. “I’ll be trying to meet him the same time you do.”

If a woman is serious about her list, Steve says she should ask herself one question before turning down a date. “Are you willing to be the same thing to him that you’re talking about on that list?” he says. “A lot of women are not.”

It’s good stuff.

I’m going to check out a little more of it.

Rick Santorum Tells President Obama How He And Michelle Obama Should Date

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, now a Fox News contributor, had some interesting dating advice for President Obama and his wife, Michelle.

SANTORUM: And you have an African-American community, particularly in the poor inner city areas, we’re looking at out of wedlock birthrates in three quarters to 75 percent (sic) of children being born out of wedlock. Marriage is an institution that’s a bridge too far for too many African-American woman and is not desirable among African-American males.

Here we have a president of the United States who says that marriage is cool. You have respect for your wife, and you treat her with the respect and dignity that she deserves. And she is part of this team. And it’s not just part of professional team, but it’s also part of a personal, romantic team. I think that’s all great. So I think it’s important that he keeps having his date night. [...]

I think he has to realize that flying to New York is…self-indulgent. Go down to the corner bar and have a drink, a shot and a beer. It does not matter where you go with your wife, is that it’s with your wife.

Not all people in the black community go hang out at the corner bar for a drink, a shot and a beer. It’s difficult for some people (and apparently Rick Santorum) to comprehend, but not all black people hang out at the bar getting drunk. Apparently, Barack and Michelle Obama should not have been so “self-indulgent.” Perhaps Santorum feels they should have taken their black asses down to the corner bar. It seems Rick Santorum thinks lowly of black people.
