Sarah Palin Is OK With 'Nigger' But Not With 'Retarded' ... Apparently

Sarah Palin seems to be OK with the word "nigger" but is not so cool with people saying the word "retarded" because it is offensive line "nigger" is to people. Huh?

Former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin continues to prove why a person would have to be a fool to think of this person as a legitimate candidate for the presidency of the United States of America.

There are people of color in America. We're not all white people, Sarah.

Lets face it, Palin symbolically spit in the face of black Americans recently with her absurd rush to defend the disgraced Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who viciously attacked a black female guest on her radio program who called in for help to set off a racial powder keg after she used the so-called N-word like 11 times during a verbal tirade on the air.

This is what Mediaite had on its Web site:

From her twitter feed last night:

Dr.Laura:don’t retreat…reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence”isn’t American,not fair”)

Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!

Palin, posing as a constitutional scholar misleadingly advising us on the first amendment, rushes to the defense of Dr. Laura, who uttered "nigger" the way most humans use the word "the" in conversation. Palin didn't seem to have much of a problem with Dr. Laura dropping "nigger" left and right. Interestingly enough, Palin's defense of Dr. Laura is even more bizarre considering these words Schlessinger offered when Palin was named the vice presidential nominee:

This also is from Mediaite:

Via Joan Walsh at Salon who dug this up from Dr. Laura’s blog in Sept 2008:

I’m stunned – couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

That Dr. Laura is quite the sweetheart, eh? Sarah sure knows how to pick 'em, huh?

It just goes to show that, for Palin, far-right politics trumps all else - even family.

You may recall that Palin had a fit and called for Rahm Emanuel, President Obama's chief of staff, to be fired for his use of the word "retarded" in a negative way a while ago.

From CBS:
At an August strategy session of liberal groups and White House aides, the Wall Street Journal recently reported, Emanuel told liberals they were "F-ing retarded" for planning to air attack ads against conservative Democrats opposed to health care reform.
Obviously, not good on Emanuel's part in this kind of a politically correct climate. Once upon a time, it might have been OK to use that word in that context, but not anymore (not in his kind of a high-profile position).

Palin, of course, launched a political nuclear war to score points for her side.
"Just as we'd be appalled if any public figure of Rahm's stature ever used the 'N-word' or other such inappropriate language, Rahm's slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it's heartbreaking," Palin wrote.
"Heartbreaking," to Palin, is saying "retarded" in a way she sees as hurtful, but it's not apparently "heartbreaking" for "nigger" to be used in a way that is hurtful - if you're Sarah Palin.

Now, not to say Dr. Laura is a person of Rahm Emanuel's stature (spare me that argument Dr. Laura/Palin defenders), but it is kind of interesting to see Palin rush to the defense of someone using "retarded" which she seemed to put in the category of the so-called N-word.

BUT, when Dr. Laura used the N-word so often she sounded like a record on a player that was skipping, Palin did not seem to be quite so offended.

She told Dr. Laura, "don't retreat...reload." It seems that, in Palin's world, saying "retarded" is so horribly wrong and an offense worthy of termination, but "nigger" is no big deal and people who use it shouldn't back down, and instead would be advised to "don't retreat...reload."

President Obama, Dems Are Wrong About Jesse Jackson

Editor's note: This blog will surprise some people who think that I am never critical of Democrats, in general, and President Obama, in particular.

I could not agree more with a particular portion of a column I saw written by Boyce Watkins on Black Voices.

Now, there was a lot to the column written by Watkins, but one part I want to point to was a part where the author discusses how the Rev. Jesse Jackson seems to have become an outcast for some in the administration of President Obama. These days, it's difficult to earn a lot of friends defending Rev. Jackson.

I'm not altogether sure why, but I've been reading and studying more about Rev. Jackson to try and understand him a little more. Currently I am reading a biography on him, and I've listened to several of his speeches, including his 1988 speech at the Democratic National Convention as he had again attempted to run for president.

In 20 years, however, Rev. Jackson has gone from being one of the most important black figures in America to largely marginalized (sadly, even by a large number of Democrats).

I find it disappointing and sad. For a lot of people, Rev. Jackson is associated with the so-called "race card" and is accused of trying to essentially make up racism to profit from it (if you believe far-right commentators like Bill O'Reilly, who I strongly believe has a personal disdain for Rev. Jackson). Still, I had not written about it for some reason. Then, this weekend, I read an article by Watkins in which this excerpt caught my attention.
Making matters worse is the Obama Administration's commitment to continued marginalization of Rev. Jesse Jackson. I am not sure if Jackson was marginalized for his verbal mishap on Fox News two years ago or something else. Either way, Jackson should be brought back into the fold of the administration and appreciated as a significant figure within the African American community. With all due respect to Obama, I am not sure how his conscience can allow him to undermine 40 years of committed service just because Rev. Jackson has become an inconvenience to him. If there is room in White House meetings for unqualified Harvard chums like Elena Kagan and Lawrence Summers, then there must also be room for committed Civil Rights veterans like Jackson, who've put their lives on the line to protect American freedoms.
For the record, here is the "mishap" that Watkins mentioned.

That aside, Rev. Jackson has meant too much to the black community to be kicked aside as has been done by Democrats. I don't agree with Watkins that Elena Kagan is unqualified, but he is entitled to his opinion. But I do think Watkins has a great point about the White House wrongly turning its back on Rev. Jackson, who is a good man and who has done so much for the good of people of all races.

I echo Watkins' call for the Obama Administration to bring Rev. Jackson into the fold. However, I do not plan to hold my breath until it happens. These days, Rev. Jackson is not too popular and is seen by some Democrats as political poison. That is sad and perhaps shows Democrats are not strong enough to stand up against that kind of B.S.

Republicans can stand up for Rand Paul, but Democrats will not stand up for Rev. Jesse Jackson. That is sad.

A good man, and Rev. Jesse Jackson is, is being treated like yesterday's news by a new age of people who fail to appreciate his outstanding contributions to society and are instead paralyzed by fear of how Rev. Jackson is perceived by conservative haters.

The Politics Of Personal Destruction Again Target President Obama

It’s an old saying these days, but once again the “politics of personal destruction” are back and the target this time is President Obama. Blogger Sandra Rose has an entry that discusses someone purported to be a college acquaintance (John C. Drew) of President Obama. Drew spots off the same old stuff we’ve heard people use to attack President Obama: Marxist, America as the enemy, yadda, yadda, yadda. There are also YouTube video clips from “Breitbart.tv” to further illustrate the FAR-right agenda at play here.

Here is an excerpt from Rose’s blog:

According to Drew, in 1980 Obama saw America as “the enemy” and he predicted a future where the people would “rise up” and “overthrow the government.”

A CNN poll out today shows that the majority of voters don’t think Obama will be reelected to a 2nd term.

An argument could be made that Obama was a young, impressionable, idealistic college student in 1980. But the facts prove that Obama still embodies the same communist/Marxist ideals that he was so passionate about in his college days.

Couple that with the fact that Obama refuses to release his college transcripts from Occidental which, some say, proves his participation in Marxist groups on campus.

Same old stuff: Marxist, socialist, communist …

What are the “facts” that will show us he “still embodies the same communist/Marxist ideals that he was so passionate about in his college days” for the people to see?

Just because people advance a smear over and over again (with either minimal evidence or no evidence to support it) does not make it true.

The Majority Of Blacks Lean Left, But That Doesn’t Stop Name Calling

I found this kind of interesting as I took one of my many daily travels through the blogosphere in search of interesting little nuggets. On the blog, Politics, Policy, Pathology and Hope WITHIN The Black Community, I found this finish to a blog entry:

There are two names that one will never be called in Black America (OK – 3 now that I think about it)

  1. “You are a left-wing extremist”
  2. “You are carrying the water for the Democrats”
  3. “You have sold out to Barack Obama where you care more about his political fortunes than you do your own permanent interests”.

Here are a few thoughts I had off the top of my head:

  1. First and foremost, this is pretty much assumed of many black people (in and out of the media). Secondly, does the name Van Jones ring a bell?
  2. Pretty much any black person who goes on television, as a liberal, is presumed to be carrying the water for the Democrats (so it doesn’t necessarily need to be spelled out explicitly).
  3. Oprah Winfrey was nailed with this charge during the campaign by conservatives who became angry that she did not give Sarah Palin, then the vice presidential candidate, a forum on Oprah’s popular syndicated talk show.

Those are just a few examples off the top of my head.

Now, for the most part, these are indeed labels a lot of blacks do not have to fear, but that is mostly because many people simply assume all blacks are in the corner of Democrats.

A FEW SIDE NOTES: I am not sure that everyone would agree with Sen. Evan Bayh about the Democrats moving too far to the left. Some would say (considering the Dems gave in on aspects of health care, sending more troops to war, etc., that President Obama has moved too far to the middle and has upset his base). That is just something to think about with this kind of discussion. Also, keep in mind, Sen. Bayh is trying to position himself as a centrist for political purposes.

Fox Nation Readers Viciously Attack Stevie Wonder Using Race, Joke About His Blindness

The great Americans who post comments on Fox Nation’s Web site, the blogging cesspool that is a product of the Fox News empire, have a new target: entertainer Stevie Wonder.

Here is what is written to get things started:

Grammy award-winning musician Stevie Wonder said President Barack Obama’s popularity has been decreasing because “people are afraid of change.” Regarding health care reform, Wonder said people are “bickering over something that we should have had a long time ago.”

“I think as far as his [Obama's] popularity decreasing, I think it’s because people are so used to, they’re so afraid of change and I think you have politics playing too much a role in what should be a natural, given that health care in this country needs to be improved and that’s just a reality,” Wonder told CNSNews.com in an exclusive interview before his performance at a benefit concert for the Maya Foundation, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit group that raises money for special education programs in private schools

Now, let us take a look at some sample comments from some of the readers:

Obama Approval Down ‘Cause People “Afraid Of Change”
Is he blind or something? He sure can’t seem to see the damn truth. If he could see whats happening around him he’d have a different view about how things are.

Here’s another:

Stevie should just stick too singing, otherwise shut up.
All ya gotta do is open your eyes and look around at what’s happening.

More classy words from Fox Nation:

Another black entertainer/sports star that doesn’t know what he’s talking about and should keep his mouth shut.

There’s more:

Stevie, I love your music, so, shut up and sing.

Lets keep it going:

I AM NOT stevie………………….I heard your music and Smokey Robinson and Ray Charles and the Commadors and on and on and on.
I was NEVER afraid of change. WE faught for the right to have change when we defeated Germany and Japan and Korea and so on…………….I have NEVER been afraid of change.
Change is ALL around us….around us ALL!
Maybe stevie it’s because you have NEVER seen our FLAG wave in the wind….sung God Bless America or shed tears when a Flag covered coffin passes
by.
ONE thing we the people are NOT afraid of is change………………………………………
BUT
when we are given the choice to be SOLD out vs being PROUD…GIVE me the PRIDE in country over the offering of our gov now.
YES……………stevie…..we can HAVE change…….even in music…….or do YOU NOT remember that hit YOU had that ALL of us loved.
BUT……………………..this change is UN FIT for human consumption!
NOT even good music can MAKE us hum along!
I ……………… WISH…………………you could see what I wrote about above…but until that changes for you………give me WAHT I know and WHAT I LOVE!

And the last few:

Since Stevey wonder is blind, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he’s only physically blinded, not ideologically blinded, as is all the Obama-ites are..

Poor Stevie blind as a bat in all ways.

Too bad Stevie can’t see what Obama is doing to this counttry…

Well, by now you get the picture.

You can see how viciously these good Americans who love Fox News attack a blind man.

Big Hollywood Writer Singles Out Minorities for Attack

The backlash against minorities continues to build since the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States of America. Now, in reality, this is hardly an unexpected occurrence as many older members of the Republican and conservative wing of the political spectrum are angry. The country they knew is slipping away and what many of these individuals see is the browning of America. And, they don’t like it one bit. These bitter and angry individuals show their frustration with the severe backlash to anything even remotely resembling affirmative action and with illegal immigration (with the way that the Latino population in this country is growing and the projections for the future).

This all brings me to a blog published on Big Hollywood by a man named Brian Jennings. Jennings goes on and on about how the country is going into debt (conservatives didn’t care as much about it when George W. Bush was president) and then laments bailouts (or potential bailouts) for minority broadcasters.

Here is what Jennings wrote (with the graphic included):

Well if we can spend millions to protect the salt marsh mouse in San Francisco Bay, we can surely shell out billions to bail out minority broadcasters. It’s good for the economy and after all Congress is on record as saying it needs to save our nation’s newspapers, too. So, the table is set for government financial intervention of the media.

Minority broadcasters are asking tax-cheat Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for financial assistance. Sounds like the financial and auto industries, and it is. These broadcasters, including the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters, the Inner City Broadcasting Coalition, the Spanish Broadcasting System, and others say they can bounce back because “unlike the auto business, broadcasting has been healthy for many years.” Has it now?

Jennings continues:

As the nation digs itself further into debt and unemployment continues to increase, media is being hit as hard as any sector. But, there is an important point to be made. Perhaps suspect business models should be allowed to fail. If there is bailout money for minority broadcasters, what about bailout money for the nation’s non-minority broadcasters who face what many believe is their only path – bankruptcy. The answer to that is a forgone conclusion. Minorities will get a bailout because after all they are minorities and deserve special treatment. But, other broadcasters – especially the consolidated media will not get a dime. No media should be bailed out.

It’s the same old politics of fear in regard to under-qualified minorities supposedly getting so muchspecial treatment while “others” work sooooooooooooo hard and, well you know, just can’t get a break.

Jennings seems to think that minorities get all of this special treatment that “other broadcasters” don’t seem to get.

I doubt Jennings, or others like him, truly would want to trade positions with minorities.

He makes some reasonable points in regard to conflict of interest if the media is taking money (in the form of a bailout). So, maybe no media should be bailed out, but to take an obvious and angry shot at minorities (the way this writer did) has a bit of a smell of resentment and perhaps racism to it.

He also took an angry, partisan cheap shot at Timothy Geithner.

News Hounds Makes A Great Point About More Bill O’Reilly Hypocrisy

Conservative Fox News (I know, it’s kind of redundant) commentator Bill O’Reilly viciously smeared the assassinated Dr. George Tiller so often over the years you nearly need a calculator to keep track of the attacks. News Hounds makes a good point: Now that Dr. Tiller has been murdered by an anti-abortion nut, Bill O’Reilly is crying that there is too much coverage of the man’s death.

Here is an excerpt of the News Hounds blog:

On last night’s (6/10/09) O’Reilly Factor, in the Factor Follow-up, Bill O’Reilly’s leap in logic once again vaulted over the cliff. He whined about the media blitz on the Dr. George Tiller murder, as compared, in his view, with the weak coverage of the murder of Private William Long at the hands of the “American Muslim assassin” (uh, alleged assassinmight work here). Although, as many of you know, O’Reilly was recently, well, forced to publicly apologizeto CNN for misstating the facts surrounding CNN’s coverage of Long, O’Reilly struck out at CNN again, complaining about its three hours worth of Tiller coverage, and half hour given to Long. Given O’Reilly’s track record, though, I think I won’t take those numbers as gospel.
