Tough Guy Glenn Beck Makes Fun Of Malia Obama, Questions Her Intelligence

Fox News extremist and radio talk show nut Glenn Beck is on the attack and this time his victim is Malia Obama, the 11-year-old daughter of President Obama and Michelle Obama.

What a tough guy Glenn Beck is these days. This is a man with a dark heart who has a serious, serious problem.

What kind of loser of a human being makes fun of an 11-year-old concerned about stopping the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico?

Once again, it shows the dark soul behind the shows that Beck puts on whether he is on Fox News or he is on the radio.

BECK: This is such a ridiculous — this is such a ridiculous thing that his daughter– (imitating Malia) Daddy?

GRAY: It’s so stupid.

BECK: How old is his daughter? Like, thirteen?

GRAY: Well, one of thems, I think, thirteen, one’s eleven, or something.

BECK: “Did you plug the hole yet, daddy?” Is that’s their — that’s the level of their education, that they’re coming to — they’re coming to daddy and saying ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?’ ” Plug the hole!

This man is a coward who has no character and seems almost less than human.

I wonder when Bill O'Reilly, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity and others will speak out against Glenn Beck and condemn him the way he and so many others did David Letterman for cracking jokes about the Palin girls.

Don't expect a whole lot from hypocritical bigots like O'Reilly, Dennis Miller, Hannity and others.

I can hardly wait to see and hear how Beck turns himself into the victim.

UPDATE: Beck has issued sort of an apology that is posted on his Web site:
In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism, I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates. The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines. It was a stupid mistake and I apologize--and as a dad I should have known better.
Weak.

David Letterman’s Top 10 Excuses For Rep. Joe Wilson’s Outrage

On The Late Show, comedian David Letterman’s popular Top 10 list examines Republican Rep. Joe Wilson’s bizarre, undisciplined and disrespectful outburst during President Obama’s speech before a joint session of Congress.

  1. Nobody cared when McCain yelled bingo
  2. It’s been weeks since a Republican politician embarrassed the state of South Carolina
  3. I thought it was a roast
  4. Yeah, I accused a politician of lying. What was I thinking?
  5. I’m an idiot
  6. Uh … Swine Flu?
  7. Thought I was in the audience at Maury
  8. Was trying to impress that hellcat Nancy Pelosi
  9. Ashton Kutcher put me up to it
  10. Shouldn’t have gone tailgating before the speech

Media Matters Posts A Top Ten List Of Its Own

I found this interesting. Media Matters for America writer Karl Frisch wrote the following: I humbly present a Top Ten list of “Right-Wingers From Whom Conservatives Should Be Demanding Apologies.”

10) Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, for falsely claiming a hate-crimes bill that adds gay, lesbian, and transgender Americans to the list of protected groups would also protect those who commit incest, necrophilia, pedophilia, bestiality, and a host of other perversions.

9) Fox News’ Sean Hannity, for hosting “Internet journalist” Andy Martin, who once called a judge a “crooked, slimy Jew, who has a history of lying and thieving common to members of his race.”

8) Syndicated radio host Neal Boortz, for describing welfare recipients as “human parasitic garbage lining up to get their applications to loot.”

7) Fox News conspiracy-theorist-in-chief Glenn Beck, for describing Obama’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court as, “Hey, Hispanic chick lady! You’re empathetic. … You’re in!”

6) MSNBC’s resident cranky uncle, Pat Buchanan, for saying prior to Sotomayor’s selection that he wanted Obama to pick a Supreme Court justice “who has real stature, impresses people” but thinking instead that Obama would pick “a minority, a woman and/or a Hispanic.”

5) Syndicated radio host Jim Quinn, for repeatedly calling NOW the “National Organization of Whores.”

4) Cincinnati-based radio host Bill Cunningham, for allegingthat “Obama wants to gas the Jews.”

3) Michael Savage (née Weiner), the third-highest-rated radio host in America, for saying“Obama hates” and “is raping America.”

2) Fox News’ irrepressible mega-star Bill O’Reilly, for repeatedly quacking that the legalization of gay marriage could lead to folks marrying ducks.

And No. 1, the conservative movement’s de facto leader, Rush Limbaugh, for sayingof Obama, “We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles … because his father was black.”

Check Out News Hounds Blog On Sean Hannity’s Hypocrisy

News Hounds is on the case of Sean Hannity coming to Sarah Palin’s rescue for a bad joke from David Letterman while ignoring a racist attack used against Michelle Obama.

Here is an excerpt:

Sean Hannity has been up in arms for days over David Letterman’s “vicious, vicious” jokeabout Sarah Palin’s daughter, claiming that a similar attack on Michelle Obama by any conservative would bring ruination. Yet race-conscious(over the rights of white people) Hannity has to date spent no time on the far more vicious and racially tinged “joke”by Republican activist Rusty DePass which likened Michelle Obama to a gorilla and then blamed her for it.

I’m almost surprised Hannity did not recruit Jesse Lee Peterson to come on and trash black people a little bit more and defend Rusty DePass.

A Massive Crowd … Of 15 … Protest Letterman And Look Foolish

The protests are underway as angry people protest outside of The Late Show studios as a show of strength and solidarity against a stupid joke made by comedian David Letterman (that he has apologized for repeatedly). Well, a crowd that swelled up to 15 (according to a CNN report) protested outside of the studio home of the Late Show. The crowd, large as it was, may have been difficult to see since it was outnumbered by the media (35) more than two to one.

Here’s an excerpt from the CNN Web site:

Radio talk show host John Ziegler — who is behind the FireDavidLetterman.com Web site that organized the protest, and who is an outspoken supporter of the former Republican vice presidential candidate — told reporters that the turnout at the event was not representative of the number of people who have responded to his site and e-mailed.

He also argued that Letterman should have been fired, and the only reasons that he hasn’t been fired were “the media’s love of David Letterman and the media’s distrust and, I believe, hatred of Sarah Palin.”

He also called Letterman’s apology — issued on Monday’s program and accepted by Palin — bogus and said that the comedian should make a charitable donation to an organization of Palin’s choosing.

Ziegler made a film about the 2008 presidential campaign called “Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.”

A part of me wants to dislike this Ziegler cat, but it’s hard. It’s painfully difficult to do much more than laugh at the guy (if for no other reason than for his Sarah Palin obsession and whining about anything that doesn’t go her way).

A Web site to get David Letterman fired … right … stay on that path Ziegler and see where it takes you.

David Letterman Apologizes … AGAIN!

David Letterman issued yet another apology in an effort to appease right wingers wh0 are attempting to score political points off of the comedian’s stupid and inappropriate joke about Bristol Palin, who is a young mother.

“All right, here – I’ve been thinking about this situation with Governor Palin and her family now for about a week – it was a week ago tonight, and maybe you know about it, maybe you don’t know about it. But there was a joke that I told, and I thought I was telling it about the older daughter being at Yankee Stadium. And it was kind of a coarse joke. There’s no getting around it, but I never thought it was anybody other than the older daughter, and before the show, I checked to make sure in fact that she is of legal age, 18. Yeah. But the joke really, in and of itself, can’t be defended. The next day, people are outraged. They’re angry at me because they said, ‘How could you make a lousy joke like that about the 14-year-old girl who was at the ball game?’ And I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the Governor and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani…And I really should have made the joke about Rudy…” (audience applauds) “But I didn’t, and now people are getting angry and they’re saying, ‘Well, how can you say something like that about a 14-year-old girl, and does that make you feel good to make those horrible jokes about a kid who’s completely innocent, minding her own business,’ and, turns out, she was at the ball game. I had no idea she was there. So she’s now at the ball game and people think that I made the joke about her. And, but still, I’m wondering, ‘Well, what can I do to help people understand that I would never make a joke like this?’ I’ve never made jokes like this as long as we’ve been on the air, 30 long years, and you can’t really be doing jokes like that. And I understand, of course, why people are upset. I would be upset myself.

“And then I was watching the Jim Lehrer ‘Newshour’ – this commentator, the columnist Mark Shields, was talking about how I had made this indefensible joke about the 14-year-old girl, and I thought, ‘Oh, boy, now I’m beginning to understand what the problem is here. It’s the perception rather than the intent.’ It doesn’t make any difference what my intent was, it’s the perception. And, as they say about jokes, if you have to explain the joke, it’s not a very good joke. And I’m certainly – ” (audience applause) “- thank you. Well, my responsibility – I take full blame for that. I told a bad joke. I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception. And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke. It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault. That it was misunderstood.” (audience applauds) “Thank you. So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the Governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much.” (audience applause)

Personally, I think Letterman is on the verge of going above and beyond the call of duty with apologies.

Interesting Catch By Alan Colmes As Reported By Huffington Post

Has there been a double standard with the reaction to David Letterman for his joke about one of Sarah Palin’s daughters? The right wing has been very upset about the Letterman-Palin feud. Huffington Post is reporting about a catch made by Alan Colmes about a comparable joke made by Jay Leno, during an episode of The Tonight Show (Sept. 2, 2008) about the Palin daughter who became pregnant.

LENO: Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it.

That’s very interesting. I don’t recall hearing much of an uproar about that particular joke. In fact, it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of the joke. Could the uproar be because Letterman is considered to be more politically liberal than Leno or maybe because Gov. Palin is trying to remain in the media spotlight since the election loss in November?

Check Out Roland Martin’s Take On The Sarah Palin-David Letterman Conflict

Commentator Roland S. Martin has weighed in on the little conflict taking place, through the media, between Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and comedian David Letterman, of CBS’ The Late Show.

Here is an excerpt from Martin’s column:

Frankly, we’ve tired of the Sarah Palin act.

She wants to be taken seriously, but when you’re spending more time getting into a back and forth with a doggone comedian rather than trying to shore up your leadership skills, then it’s clear you’re playing out of your league.

In a recent poll, not even 1 percent of the responders saw her as a leader in the GOP. Yeah, she didn’t even get 1 percent. I think that’s a joke and something to laugh at.

Meghan McCain Is A Little Misguided About Double Standard Argument

As many of you may know, I actually like Meghan McCain and think she is good for Republicans (if they would be smart enough and follow the lead of her and other moderates in the party). That being said, I kind of shook my head in a bit of disappointment when I read the following comments (among others in a recent blog) from Meghan on a post at The Daily Beast.

However, there seems to be such an aggressive double standard for Republican women as opposed to Democrat women. Would David Letterman ever make such a joke about President Obama’s daughters (or for that matter Al Gore’s, or substitute another high-profile Democrat politician)? President Obama’s daughter Malia is not much younger than Willow, and I am certain that David Letterman would never make a joke about Malia being raped by Eliot Spitzer or refer to the first lady as looking “slutty.” Why is it funny to make fun of a 14-year-old girl, no matter who her mother is, let alone that of one of the most prominent female politicians in the country?

Meghan’s dad, Sen. John McCain, made a very nasty comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton family (that included an attack on former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno) 11 years ago. It’s a shame Meghan McCain dragged President Obama’s daughter into the discussion, but I suppose it should not be a big surprise. Children of presidents and prominent politicians have been attacked in the past (even though Republicans try to act like Sarah Palin’s daughter is the first victim ever).

Remember this from a Republican dinner in June 1998:

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN: Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.

Wasn’t that (in addition to a shot at Chelsea Clinton) a sexist slam against Janet Reno who, apparently, did not fit Sen. McCain’s vision of what a woman is supposed to look like?

Conservatives Continue To Exploit Palin-Letterman Conflict For Political Gain

New York Assembly Minority Leader (and Republican, as you will clearly see by the end of this blog) Brian Kolb is now calling for comedian David Letterman to be fired because remarkably thin-skinned Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was supposedly offended by his over-publicized, albeit inappropriate joke about her daughter. It makes me start to question just how offended she really is by this whole Letterman joke thing and if the level to which she is offended eclipsed only by the publicity she seems to be relishing in right now? Fox News now has joined the discussion and poured a little gasoline on the fire to get it going a little more.

Here is part of a Fox News story:

New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, a Republican, is calling on the CEO of CBS to fire David Letterman for crude comments he made about Sarah Palin and her daughter.

In the letter to CBS chief Les Moonves, Kolb said he took Letterman to task for the “shockingly inappropriate” jokes.

“As the proud father of a daughter, and as a husband, I wanted Mr. Moonves to hear from me directly about Mr. Letterman’s disparaging remarks,” Kolb said in a written statement.

“Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees — even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman — making demeaning and degrading comments about women.”

Brian, simmer down.

Fox example, Sen. John McCain shouldn’t have had to step down wen he made nasty comments about Chelsea Clinton years ago. We also shouldn’t have tried to have even crazy Rush Limbaugh resign for the vicious attack he made on young Chelsea Clinton. I have no use for Rush Limbaugh, but I would not think a person should be fired for making a joke like that (disciplined in some way … yes, but not fired).

Why is it degrading to women? He talked about two people engaged in sex … one is a man and the other is a girl? So, how is it degrading to women? The joke was inappropriate because he unreasonably targeted a young teenager in a joke that really wasn’t funny, frankly. Calling for Letterman to be fired is just a hysterical and politically-motivated call. Letterman is a comedian. Comedians make jokes. Some times people find them funny and some times they do not find them quite so funny. Letterman was over the line, but now Palin seems to be going over the line in an effort to keep herself in the media spotlight as she positions herself for the 2012 presidential election (she has virtually no shot of even getting her party’s nomination). I think that is the motivation behind her media tour.

The thing about Letterman is he fairly quickly realized he was wrong and apologized for his actions and clarified what he feels were some misinterpretations from people who tried to make his comments out to be more sinister than they were. Comics have a long history of making fun of people and oftentimes pushing it too far. Letterman stepped over the line and he has apologized.

These right wingers are exploiting this episode too much (for political gain) and it could backfire on them.

Sarah Palin Works To Keep her Name In The Media

As expected, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has decided to capitalize on the media attention she is getting for the shot that David Letterman took at her daughter. She was being interviewed by Matt Lauer Friday morning on The Today Show. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, she is doing everything possible to bring sympathy to David Letterman while turning herself into the political opportunist. Is Sarah Palin exploiting this opportunity to score political points? It is beginning to seem that way. How bad or traumatic could this experience truly have been if the governor of Alaska is so willing to keep going out in the media to discuss it and her daughters?

PALIN: Matt, I would say that you and anybody else are extremely naive to believe that very convenient excuse of David Letterman’s the other day. He took a couple of days for him to think of that excuse that, oh, no, he wasn’t talking about my daughter who was there with me at the (Yankees) game, the 14-year-old. Well, I think it’s a weak excuse.

To score political points, it certainly is advantageous to Palin to make Letterman’s comments be about her 14-year-old daughter rather than her 18-year-old daughter. Instead of just issuing a reasonable statement to condemn Letterman’s joke, she has instead fanned the flames to create an inferno (all, I believe, designed to keep herself in the public eye leading up to the 2012 presidential campaign).

PALIN: I would hope that people really start — really rising up and deciding it’s not acceptable. No wonder young girls, especially, have such low self-esteem in America (Palin said that she could) connect the dots to a degrading statement made about young women, and that does contribute to some acceptance of abuse of young women.

That is a reasonable statement. We saw this throughout the presidential campaign with the negative stereortypes about black people coming in as attacks on the Obamas.

Huffington Post then has this excerpt that I found interesting:

Later, Lauer pressed Palin to explain a line in a statement from her spokesperson that “it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.” Lauer asked, “Are you suggesting that David Letterman can’t be trusted around a 14-year-old girl?”

“Hey, take it however you want to take it,” she said. “It is a comment that came from the heart that Willow, no doubt, would want to stay away from David Letterman after he made such a comment. And you can interpret that however you want to interpret it.”

“Well is that not perhaps in bad taste also, governor?” Lauer asked.

“No, it’s not in bad taste,” she said. “Hey, maybe he couldn’t be trusted because Willow’s had enough of this type of comments and maybe Willow would want to react to him in a way that maybe would catch him off guard. That’s one way to interpret such a comment.”

In this case, she and this spokesperson appear to be exploiting the 14-year-old daughter to score political points. After saying Letterman tried to excuse himself as speaking about the 18-year-old rather than the 14-year-old, she seems to do the same thing to cover up what is a horrible statement from one of her spokespeople. The implication was that Letterman would be a danger to the 14-year-old daughter after using his age and her age in a previous statement to imply some sort of pedophilia. So, she is allowed to interpret the comment to put her team in a positive light, but others are “extremely naive” to take him at his word that he was talking to the 18-year-old daughter.

That’s tough logic to follow.

Cupp Attacks President Obama For David Letterman’s Joke

S.E. Cupp, who was billed as a columnist during Sean Hannity’s right-wing Fox News television show, used the inappropriate David Letterman joking about the family of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to attack … President Barack Obama???????????? Huh?

CUPP: This is the enduring legacy of the Obama campaign. I’m not saying this to be inflammatory. I blame Barack Obama because he allowed his surrogates in the media, and Hollywood and everyone else on the left to do this dirty talking for him. He didn’t come out and say enough is enough. I don’t want to win this way. I have two daughters, and I don’t like the way this woman or Cindy McCain is being treated or talked about. It was vile.

Cupp’s logic frankly is too bizarre and too twisted to even follow. I notice Cupp didn’t mention Michelle Obama in there and how she was portrayed as an angry black woman, a radical, a mean person, a hater of America and more during the campaign. When Barack Obamadefended his wife, people made fun of him and one person said that if he wanted someone to protect his wife he should vote for John McCain. The Obamas were told Michelle is fair game. But, how can she, in any way, hold President Obama responsible for something Letterman said? It makes zero sense. So, who is responsible for the attacks on President Obama: not being an American citizen, not showing his birth certificate, being a Muslim, being anti-American, not supporting our troops, not wearing an American flag pin, being unpatriotic, attacking America, palling around with terrorists, being a black nationalist, being angry, being a racist and more.

Hey, big-time politics is a tough business. Barack Obama made history by enduring all of that and coming out successful in the end in his bid for the presidency.

Hillary Clinton was tough enough to handle it and has been tough enough throughout most of her adult life to handle the heat.

Michelle Obama has taken the heat from people … people like Sean Hannity.

Sarah Palin has to be tough enough and smart enough to handle it the right way.

I don’t really recall Sean Hannity coming to Michelle Obama’s rescue when she was being portrayed as an angry black woman, a hater of America, a criticizer of America because … oh, that’s right … he was one of the people making those charges.

Oh Well … Looks Like Sarah Palin Is Going To Try And Get More Publicity

It looks like Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is going to try and score some more political points off this whole mini-feud with comedian David Letterman. As I suspected, it looks like she is about to hit the talk-show circuit to bring more publicity to what she claimed was so offensive to her and her family.

From Huffington Post:

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be sitting down for a live interview with Matt Lauer on the “Today” show Friday in which she is expected to discuss her thoughts on the future of the GOP, and, even better, her recent feud with David Letterman over jokes he made about her and her family on his show Monday. Palin will be speaking from Texas, NBC says.

I guess she couldn’t let it go, but that is her choice.

Huffington Post:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/11/sarah-palin-today-show-in_n_214587.html

What Are The Palins Thinking?

What is going on with Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd Palin? Why can’t they just be smart and let the whole David Letterman thing go?

From The Christian Science Monitor:

When asked if Sarah Palin would accept an invitation to appear on David Letterman’s program, Palin spokesperson Meg Stapleton responded by saying, “The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.”

This is an unbelievably stupid statement on the part of Stapleton and I can only hope the Palins did not approve of such a boneheaded comment. The Palins are successfully turning David Letterman from the heel into the victim while turning themselves into the exploitative heels. This statement sort of validates what I was saying before about how the Palin camp is trying to portray Letterman as some sort of pedophile … which is absolutely ridiculous.

Will Sarah Palin try to get more mileage out of this controversy by going on the talk show circuit?

Time will tell.

David Letterman Apologizes For Taking A Shot At Daughter Of Sarah Palin

Comedian David Letterman has come under fire for making an in-poor-taste joke about the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. It was a highly-inappropriate joke that was in reference to the Palin daughter who had the baby. Of course, conservatives tried to spin it to say he was talking about her younger 14-year-old daughter, but I am not willing to go so far as to say that was his reference. It does help the Palins and the right demonize Letterman a little more by portraying it that way, but that is not the reality of the situation that Letterman put himself in.

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter [Bristol]… and now they’re upset with me…” Letterman says on tonight’s show. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl…. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.” Saying he hopes he’s “cleared part of this up,” Letterman extended an invitation to Palin to come on the show as a guest.

First of all, he was not talking about the 14-year-old. Any rational person without an agenda knows he was talking about the older daughter. I’m not saying it’s appropriate either way, but we should be intellectually honest about his intent – whether or not the joke was appropriate.

Now, clearly it wasn’t the strongest apology conservatives hoped for. Instead, Letterman chose to clear the air about the intent of his joke. His apology, of course, was not strong enough for conservatives. For once, conservatives might be right (although he did admit to being “guilty of poor taste” in his response. Letterman should have issued a stronger apology instead of what seemed more like a clarification.

Here was Sarah Palin’s statement that Letterman referenced:

In an e-mailed statement, the Republican governor said: “Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands — that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.”

I was going to put Todd Palin’s response, but he made some puzzling and gratuitous reference about “Alaskans” that seemed to have no value.

Noticed how Sarah Palin played upon Letterman’s age and then latched onto the age of her younger daughter? That was not by accident. She tried to play up the angle of older men exploiting young girls (that too was inappropriate). She had the moral high ground and sort of blew it by trying to play some kind of pedophile card against Letterman.

Still, Letterman made an inappropriate joke and it’s good he at least recognized the out-of-bounds nature of the joke.
