It Has Been 41 Years Since The Assassination Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. … Look How Far We’ve Come

We may not be all the way there, yet. But there is no doubt this nation has made tremendous progress toward equality and fulfilling the tremendous promise of greatness the United States of America has. Today, we formally swore in Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States of America. We do this a little more than 40 years since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man many people consider to be one of the greatest human beings ever to walk the face of the Earth. This day, this historic time, is a part of the vision that Dr. King had for the United States of America. You wonder just how realistically Dr. King could have imagined that one day we would have a black president of the United States of America. How many people, people far younger than Dr. King would be today, could have imagined a black president of these United States of America? I never thought it was possible and I am in my mid 30s. This is truly a historic time and I have to imagine Dr. King would swell with pride. I imagine that somewhere up there, taking a rest from all the hard work he and so many others alongside him did, the good doctor has a smile on his face. Continue your rest Dr. King and thanks for everything you did to make moments like we witnessed today possible.
