Martin Luther King Day … A Day Of Reflection
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson has often referred to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as the greatest American who ever lived. He has said it in at least a couple of different venues and in at least a couple of different ways. But, the message is absolutely unmistakable. Monday, Martin Luther King Day in the United States, I took some time (as we all should have) to reflect on so many of the great things that Dr. King did to make he lives of all of us better today. In January, we celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and we celebrate the day that is dedicated to his remembrance (a day that had to be fought for against vigorous opposition from the forces of hate). Dr. King gave us everything he had to give and he fought for us in a time where he literally put his life in danger. In the end, in 1968 when he was just 39 years old, Dr. King was forced to pay the ultimate price for so many of the freedoms that we enjoy today. With all that Dr. King gave us, there seems no way we can give him back even close to what he gave us.
