Think Progress has been on top of the issue of Rep. Lynn Westmoreland's use of the racially-offensive term "uppity" often used in a derogatory fashion to describe black people. The term is often used to put down black people who have overstepped their bounds and gotten in the white man's way of doing somerthing. Of course, he is pleading ignorance through his spokespeople. He may in fact be ignorant, but in this case ignorance is not a defense ... in my book. He should no better. The sad part is that now, even though he does no better, he and his staff apparently are standing by this racially-offensive term used by Westmoreland. it shows the extent to which Republicans will play racial politics to win this race for the presidency. There is an obsession to win ... a win at all costs mentality. Here is the response from Westmoreland's staff. “He stands by that characterization and thinks it accurately describes the Democratic nominee,” said Brian Robinson, Westmoreland’s spokesman. “He was unaware that the word had racial overtones and he had absolutely no intention of using a word that can be considered offensive.” Robinson is what is wrong with the world. He is an enabler of racist language like this and is serving as little more than a minister of propaganda for racially-offensive language directed at the first prominent black to run for the highest office in the land.
