We've heard enough talk about experience from supporters of 72-year-old Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee for president of the United States. Do not be fooled by this garbage talk of experience. In McCain, we have a man who should be history running against a man, Sen. Barack Obama, who is making history as we speak. Obama's presence in the United States Senate is history-making, but not nearly as history-making as a successful candidacy for president of the United States would be. He was sworn in as senator on Jan. 4, 200 and is just the fifth African American senator in the history of the United States to have been popularly elected. He has been on Senate committees for Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs. As a member of the Foreign Relations committee he has made official visits to Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa (according to Wikipedia). I know that is hard to believe for someone who supposedly does not have any foreign policy experience if you listen to ignorant Republican parrots spouting off Republican talking points like robots. Additionally, Sen. Obama has done work with Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. He also has become chairman of a senate subcommittee on European Affairs. Prior to becoming a U.S. Senator, Obama was an Illinois State Senator from 1997 to 2004. That is a lot of service to the people for a man who some people continue to insist has no experience. Additionally, Obama has been a community organizer in Chicago doing meaningful work that helps real people and he has been a teacher at the college level - molding the lives of young people on track to be the leaders of the future.
