Fox News channel has long been a safe haven for right-wing bigots to express their virtually unchallenged viewpoints. Sean Hannity, a host of programs on the network, is chief of Fox News channel’s bigots. He, in an effort to get a little backup, invited one of the biggest bigots in all of talk radio, Bill Cunningham, a man who has made some of the most outrageous comments ever heard on the airwaves (you can check out News Hounds for some of the documentation or do a simple Google search). Take an opportunity to read how Hannity whines about the way that conservatives were rightly called out for using President-elect Barack Obama’s middle name as a racist slur. Many conservatives tried to use it as a racial slur to scare fellow white Americans into thinking that Obama was too much like “one of them” and could not be trusted and should not be supported. This is the essence of the subtle racism that many conservatives utilize to achieve their goals. Then, of course, Hannity and Cunningham go on to bring up Rev. Wright and all the other “associations” of President-elect Obama. Then, predictably, Hannity and Cunningham tried to tie Obama to now disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich for their own nefarious purposes. It’s all tired and old stuff that has gotten the Republicans nowhere. The show is also evidence that the conservative extremists on the right wing, those who keep the party virtually racially/culturally segregated, still hold too much power in the GOP.
