Only A Matter Of Time Before Obama Is Linked To Blagojevich

Throughout the presidential campaign (both in the primary and general) the Republicans attempted to pin down Barack Obama by using the guilt-by-association attack against him. It has been my opinion that the Republicans surely are salivating over the thought of trying to pin this scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blajojevich (who has been accused of essentially trying to sell Obama’s former seat in the United States Senate to the highest bidder). It has already started: Republicans are trying to find ways to spin this as a negative against President-elect Obama.

Media Matters for America has documented this:

Summary: MSNBC Liveco-host Contessa Brewer baselessly speculated that Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s arrest for, among other allegations, allegedly trying to sell President-elect Obama’s Senate seat, might “taint” Obama and “whoever gets named to the Senate seat.” Newsweek’s Michael Isikoff responded, in part, that “this is a very sticky matter for Obama,” adding: “There are a lot of — a web of interrelationships between Obama and Blagojevich’s political world that’s gonna make this awkward.” Neither noted that, as U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald did later, the criminal complaint “makes no allegations about the president-elect whatsoever.”

Trying to make this stick to Obama is stupid. But, Republicans have been trying to tear down Obama through Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Bill Ayers and others (because they can not … could not defeat him on the issues that are important to the American people). It didn’t work then and it will only work for the extremist nuts on the far right of the political spectrum who are uncomfortable with Obama as president for reasons that are up for speculation.
