Detroit News Reporter Rob Parker Out Of Line With Shot At Detroit Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli

It really kind of pains me to write this because I’ve met Rob Parker and I think he really is a good guy (in spite of how many people bash and trash him as a columnist). But, on Sunday (Dec. 21) he stepped out of line as he delivered a bad cheap shot to Detroit Lions football coach Rod Marinelli in the post-game press conference following a 42-7 loss to New Orleans that dropped the team to 0-15 on the season (the first National Football League team ever to start 0-15). After shredding Marinelli and the team he ended his questioning with this: “Do you wish your daughter had married a better defensive coordinator (Marinelli’s daughter is married to Lions defensive coordinator Joe Barry)?” That was out of line and it could land Parker, a columnist for the Detroit News and a frequent ESPN contributor, in some deep, DEEP water. Parker was ripped by the Fox show hosts who all found his attack on Marinelli out of line (particularly Terry Bradshaw). On a side note, the Detroit Free Press (a sort of rival to the News although the two papers are to some extent partners in the city) picked up the story, but neglected to mention that Parker was once a columnist for the paper. For the sake of full disclosure, however, the Free Press should have mentioned that fact.
