Michelle Malkin, Like Sean Hannity And Others, Engage in Bigoted Stereotypes Of Illinois, Chicago

Some stereotypes are more acceptable than others - apparently. Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin and fellow right-wing extremists like Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly, who has a reputation as a hater, has joined the chorus of many others in spewing bigoted stereotypes of the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. Recently, we’ve been hearing so much talk about so-called “Illinois politics” and so-called “Chicago politics” and the alleged corruption of politics in the Windy City and in the state of Illinois. Apparently, this truly has become an acceptable stereotype. Sadly, however, it has not just been the conservatives making such bigoted comments, but they have been the ones making these comments the loudest. Obviously, a big part of that is the glee they feel over the scandal involved the now-disgraced Illinois Gov. (hopefully not for much longer) Rod Blagojevich. Many on the conservative wing of the political spectrum have been using this latest controversy as a means to attack President-elect Barack Obama (led by O’Reilly, Hannity and Malkin … in spite of how much they try to fake emphasizing that Obama has not been charged with anything). This is their opportunity to try and tie President-elect Obama to a scandal to try and poke holes through his image. It’s wrong, however, to keep feeding into the old and played-out stereotypes of Chicago and Illinois. Each individual person should stand on his or her own. Just as it would be wrong to judge all peopleof Blagojevich’s race by his sins, so too is it wrong to stereotype all of the good people of Chicago and Illinois. For every cooked politician that has come out of Chicago and out of Illinois, think about all of the good ones who have come out who have never been convicted of crimes, never had a hint of scandal and have worked hard for the greater good of the people of Chicago and of Illinois. People have problems with President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. They’re not from Chicago or Illinois.
