Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, obviously, is in a lot of trouble after his arrest for attempting to sell the vacated United States Senate seat formerly held by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder. Not content with this, Republicans have been trying their hardest to link this scandal to President-elect Obama. Typical reaction from the Republicans who still are coming to grips with their defeat in the general election. The “war” is not over to these Republicans and they continue to fight on using any means necessary to achieve whatever objective it is they have in their small heads. It comes back to playing the tired guilt-by-association card once again. Here are a couple of disturbing comments I saw from an Associated Press story about Obama being tied to the scandal:
“The serious nature of the crimes listed by federal prosecutors raises questions about the interaction with Gov. Blagojevich, President-electObama and other high ranking officials who will be working for the future president,” said Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the new GOP House whip.
Added Robert M. “Mike” Duncan, chairman of the Republican National Committee, “President-elect Barack Obama’s comments on the matter are insufficient at best.”
Once again, this is the disgusting part of politics that we saw from Republicans throughout the general election. The Republicans will use any person or any scandal to try and tear down another person for nothing more than political gain. The FBI did a thorough investigation of Blagojevichand had no evidence that this was anything other than the Illinois governor trying to cash in on the opportunity to get something from his ability to make the appointment of the new U.S. senator. If the Republicans question the thorough nature of the work of the FBI (the government) does that make the GOP unpatriotic or somehow un-American? It’s easy to spread rumors such as what Cantor and Duncan are doing, but it’s a lot harder to substantiate such rumors. It’s irresponsible on both of their parts and stabs right at the heart of any credibility these two men may once have had as representatives of groups of people.
