Sen. Roland Burris may find himself able to escape the scandal he has put himself into, but it will not be easy. The junior senator from Illinois got a stern message from the senior senator from Illinois, Sen. Dick Durbin (who apparently spoke with Burris for about an hour): Time for you to peace out.
Said Durbin:
“I told him that under the circumstances, I would resign. He said, ‘I’m not going to resign.’ I can’t force him.”
Burris is not stepping down on his own. That seems to be pretty obvious at this point.
