Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele has proven once again that when it comes to connecting with real people, the GOP remains as out of touch, elitist, hostile and partisan as ever. The Republicans may have a new leader, but their politics remain as confrontational and partisan as ever. Steele proved that during an interview he conducted with
Fox News (I know, it’s difficult to believe) and “business” anchor Neil Cavuto:
CAVUTO: Republican Senators Collins, Specter, and Snowe who voted for the stimulus plan in the Senate, what…uhh…retribution will you exact?
STEELE: Look, my retribution is the retribution of the voters in their states. They’re going to have to go through a primary in which they’re going to have to explain to those Republican voters in that primary…
CAVUTO: I know, but will you, as RNC head recommend no RNC funds being provided to help them?
STEELE: That is something I’ll talk to the state parties about and we’ll follow their lead.
CAVUTO: So, in other words, are you open to that?
STEELE: Oh, yes, I’m always open to everything, baby, absolutely.
President Barack Obama has not made a lot of mistakes thus far. But one mistake he may have made was believing in this talk, these hopes and dreams of bipartisanship. Steele has proven he is no different from all the other leaders (like Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann) and the self-appointed, media-based leaders (like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly) of the Republican part. As time goes by, these extremists shut the door on any chance that this closed-society party will in any way diversify (sorry, but Michael Steele is not representative of diversity). It’s like the name of the 1989 rap album from Ice T: “Freedom of speech … just watch what you say.” The more good, strong-willed people the Republicans drive from their party the stronger the hold Democrats will put on the voters who would like to stay independent.
UPDATE: Take note of the fake-ass “baby” he slipped in there trying to sound cool. Don’t forget your antacid.
