For those of us with illusions that new Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele would change the culture in Washington - Sunday morning was a wake-up call. Steele, who is being celebrated in his new role running the show for the GOP as its chairman, showed that partisanship is not going to end with his election to the top spot. One of the few things that has always bothered me about Michael Steele is his oftentimes clumsy way of playing politics (being hypocritical and seeing only the bad in other parties while ignoring the same things in his own party). On Sunday, the tradition continued for Steele as he appeared on Fox News Sunday with Republican-leaning host Chris Wallace.

And for those Democrats and others who just want to put up roadblocks and do the crazy typical play that they normally do — the name-calling, the obfuscation, and the sleight-of-hand — I don’t have time for it. Because there are important issues we have to face on the economy, the war, and issues that affect the poor, and I want to have this party in a position to move on those issues.
Once again, Steele whines about all of these horrible things that supposedly are done by Democrats (but he believes Republicans are innocent of). It’s like the ostrich putting its head in the ground and believing everything is OK because it can only see what it wants to see. It’s ignorant and shortsighted on Steele’s part. Steele criticizes Democrats for “obfuscation” and then praises Republicans for standing in front of the stimulus bill and doing everything possible to derail it. Once again, Steele proves hypocritical and perhaps this is a sign of things to come. Also, as a side note, just because the RNC has elected a black chairman does not mean it has done much of anything to fix problems that prevent the GOP from connecting with people of color, who overwhelmingly support the Democrats.
