Pistons Made Mistake Handling Personnel

I find it difficult to fault Joe Dumars for his decision to trade Chauncey Billups, who had been one of the cornerstones of the franchise for quite some time. But, the salary cap is the salary cap and, based on that, the team president of the Pistons made a sound decision. Bringing in Allen Iverson was a roll of the dice and it hasn’t worked out so hot. Rookie head coach Michael Curry being hired was a questionable decision (to say the least) and the Pistons are paying a price for his inexperience. Detroit should have made the decision to bring Iverson off the bench, but instead opted to bring Richard Hamilton off the bench. Putting one of the team’s leaders on the bench was a horrible decision. Hamilton would have worked well with young point guard Rodney Stuckey and Iverson could have come off the bench and been too much for opposing second units or tired first units to handle. But, when you think about it, who knows whether or not it would have mattered. This team looks tired, disinterested, distracted, out of sync and finished. The season has been over for some time and the vicious beating the LeBron James Cavaliers put on the Pistons, Sunday, was indicative of what will be an ugly closing stretch of the season. Detroit has to blow it up, start young and go with fresh faces. Time to let the tired and distracted guys be tired and distracted some place else.
