Save it (your made-for-media explanations that are reminiscent of what we just had to stomach recently from Rod Blagojevich), Roland Burris. Sen. Burris appears to be in scalding hot political water these days. After his long battle to rightfully take his seat in the United States Senate it appears that his time as senator could be pretty short lived.

WASHINGTON (CNN) –Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said Wednesday that a Senate ethics panel is investigating Sen. Roland Burris following his disclosure that he had spoken with Rod Blagojevich’s brother about raising money for the disgraced former governor while seeking appointment to the Senate.
Durbin’s comments came shortly before Rep. Phil Hare, a Democrat from western Illinois, became the first member of Congress to publicly call on Burris to step down, describing the ongoing Blagojevich saga as “a recurring nightmare.”
“Given this latest revelation, I believe it is in the best interest of all Illinoisans that Senator Burris resigns,” Hare said in a statement. “Our state and its citizens deserve the whole truth, not bits and pieces only when it is convenient.”
Now, it appears, Sen. Burris even has Sen. Dick Durbin (the senior senator from Illinois) off his squad. Brother Burris appears to be in big, BIG trouble. He may have some explanations (hell, O.J. Simpson has explanations and still is searching for the real killers). But, his explanations seem unlikely to pass the smell test. Republicans and Democrats in Illinois are already beginning to call on Burris to resign from his position (one that was already tainted through the process that led to his nomination). I am not quite ready to call for Burris to step down, but his explanations seem unsatisfactory for me. There needs to be a thorough investigation of Sen. Burris.
