Sen. Barack Obama, back during the summer, was criticized for going on a trip to Hawaii for a vacation and to visit with his grandmother. Now, he is planning on a return trip to visit his grandmother who by some published reports is in poor health. But, when Sen. Obama made an earlier trip to Hawaii to vacation and to spend time with her he was criticized by, among other people, commentator Cokie Roberts, who said the following (as documented by Media Matters): “It’s a little rough to be doing it at this point although, he — you know, I think he is feeling somewhat secure, but Hawaii is also a somewhat odd place to be doing it. I know that he is from Hawaii, he grew up there, his grandmother lives there, but he’s made such a point about how he is from Kansas and, you know, the boy from Kansas and Kenya and it makes him seem a little bit more exotic than perhaps he would want to come across as at this stage in the presidential campaign.” Sen. Obama has been accused by some people of hiding his grandmother from the public eye because she is white, but when he has gone to visit her he has been criticized for making an “exotic” trip. Sen. Obama was criticized in a reprehensible article entitled, “Free Obama’s White Grandmother.” Here is an excerpt from the article: “Now, the Chicago Tribune reports ‘the Obama campaign declined to make (his white grandmother) available.’ Is she sick? Not apparently. Bedridden? Hospitalized? Not apparently. She is the ‘Prisoner of Obama,’ and of Obama’s racist myth that he is ‘Black’ and not ‘Black and White.’ What a disgrace. And like whimpering puppies the media do not protest, complain or demand access.” This was a disgusting article then and it is even more disgusting now that we know she is in poor health and at an advanced age.
