Former Secretary of State Colin Powell gives Sen. Barack Obama even more credibility with regard to foreign policy. This is among the reasons the Republicans are upset that one of their own has decided to support Obama’s presidential candidacy. Said Sen. Obama, about the Powell endorsement, “With so many brave men and women from Fayetteville serving in our military, this is a city and a state that knows something about great soldiers,” the campaign reported. “And this morning, a great soldier, a great statesman, and a great American has endorsed our campaign to change America. I have been honored to have the benefit of his wisdom and counsel from time to time over the last few years, but today, I am beyond honored and deeply humbled to have the support of General Colin Powell.” We now know, that if elected, Sen. Obama will have yet another strong and knowledgeable voice he can listen to for not only foreign policy advice, but also for economic advice. In addition, Sen. Obama would benefit from the experience and wisdom of a man with tremendous experience and intellect. This is significant because Powell has supported Sen. John McCain financially as recently as last year. This is a telling and important endorsement.
