The Republican Party hardly has been known for its diversity, but this is beginning to get ridiculous by now. Even the media is not exempt from attacks. And, apparently, black reporters and black members of the media have to be careful to watch their step around supporters of Gov. Sarah Palin. Here is an excerpt from a Talking Points Memo story, “Palin’s routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric’s questions for her ‘less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media.’ At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, ‘Sit down, boy.’” That was incredible to read at more than one media outlet. Give me a break, that is almost something you would expect to see or hear in the 1960s or earlier. Leadership from Gov. Palin and Sen. John McCain need to stand up to their supporters and put to bed such foolishness in this increasingly negative campaign.
