Clearly, it's no coincidence Sen. John McCain has asked those who support his presidential campaign to tone down the rhetoric of hate that has indeed been pervasive in recent rallies held by Sen. McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates. One of the latest comments of condemnation came from AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, who was strongly critical of the anger crossing the line into dangerous territory. Sweeney was troubled by the unwillingness of Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin to even try to put a stop to the rhetoric of hate. Said Sweeney in a Huffington Post article, "Sen. John McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin and the leadership of the Republican party have a fundamental moral responsibility to denounce the violent rhetoric that has pervaded recent McCain and Palin political rallies. When rally attendees shout out such attacks as 'terrorist' or 'kill him' about Sen. Barack Obama, when they are cheered on by crowds incited by McCain-Palin rhetoric - it is chilling that McCain and Palin do nothing to object."
