Today, Republicans and other right-wingers are throwing a hissy fit because Gwen Ifill, of PBS, is in the process of writing a book, "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." This book (Republicans claim it is favorable to Sen. Barack Obama and akin to a sort of endorsement of his candidacy) is scheduled to be published early next year; it should be hitting the shelves right around the time of the presidential inauguration. Ifill, as you may know, is scheduled to be moderator as Democratic Sen. Joe Biden faces Republican Gov. Sarah Palin in the campaign's one and only vice presidential debate. Apparently, Republicans neglected to properly do their homework to vet Ifill as a candidate for moderator. Had they done their job and researched her they might have discovered that this Ifill book was in plain site on Amazon and other Web pages. It's likely a simple Google search would have revealed information about Ifill and this book (called a pro-Obama piece by conservatives who probably know next to nothing about the content). Many people have already questioned whether Sen. John McCain properly vetted Palin prior to selecting her as his running mate. Questions about Sen. McCain's judgement are nothing new. But, to begin complaining now seems to be either a show of panic, a preemptive excuse for failure or a flat-out lack of homework done by the GOP (claiming they knew nothing about this book that some Republicans, like the rabid ones on Fox News, feel should disqualify Ifill from her role as moderator).Huffington Post:
