Mary Mitchell, of the Chicago Sun-Times, has fast become one of my favorite columnists. She is one of my favorite columnists to read for, among other reasons, her willingness to truly say what is on her mind, her ability to articulate her points through straight talk and her toughness. I could go on and on about that, but comments made by conservative Rush Limbaugh caught my attention as I read a column written by Richard Prince, who also writes a strong column. For those of you familiar with the highly controversial Limbaugh, you know he is apt to go off on these verbal tirades against those in the media he oftentimes gleefully terms, liberals. But, this time Limbaugh’s bullying targeted someone who is not only ready to fight back, but is calling out the conservative talker who enjoys an almost cult-like following on the right wing. Limbaugh said, on Thursday, ”Mary Mitchell, a wuss, wimp columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times says that Sarah Palin should be censured. She says that ‘Sarah Palin should apologize to the Obama campaign and the American people for her role in bringing out the worst in her supporters.’ This is laughable.” Obviously, he was not content with that statement. Limbaugh continued, “Come on, Mary. Grow up. This is the big leagues. How about the people in your party? I know you’re a Democrat, Mary Mitchell. You can’t deny it, all you liberal media people are Democrats. What about the incitement of this whole country that you and your fellow journalists have engaged in along with the Democrat Party? You have gendered up hate for this president. You have ginned up a despise for the US military. You have sought to convince the American people their country is worthless and sinking into an abyss. You have been doing it for six years.” Rush Limbaugh has said far, FAR worse for far, FAR longer. I commend Mary Mitchell for standing up for herself and standing up to Rush Limbaugh who is hardly known for his objectivity. Mitchell added this classic comment that seems to describe Rush Limbaugh, who had the nerve to call Mitchell a “racist nutball” in a subsequent column, “When you step on a pig’s tail, it squeals. Rush Limbaugh is a squealer,” Mitchell began in her Friday column. And why is he squealing? Because John McCain and Sarah Palin are losing ground in a contest that they thought was theirs. And they are losing it to a black man. . . . The reason Limbaugh is squealing like the pig he is, is because he’s the epitome of white privilege.” Now, I wonder how Rush Limbaugh will bounce back on the attack after this one.Richard Prince column about Mitchell/Limbaugh spat:
