This kind of subtle racism is becoming old hat for the increasingly desperate Republican Party. Once again, for no apparent reason other than to stoke fear and fuel anti-Muslim racism, another member of the GOP has referred to Sen. Barack Obama by using his middle name, "Hussein." Again, this was done at another Republican rally, as reported by our friends at Huffington Post. This time the racist use of Sen. Obama's middle name was performed in Pennsylvania by GOP chair of Lehigh County Bill Platt - who did it twice. This was done just minutes prior to the time Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin were set the stage. Platt twice, in racist fashion, referred to "Barack Hussein Obama" in his presentation. This is not the first time that a McCain-Palin rally has been marred by this blatantly racist use of Sen. Obama's middle name for no apparent reason. We know that the Republicans would not be referring to his middle name if it was Timothy or Samuel. This is done to try and stir up anti-Muslim racism. This is being done to try and paint Sen. Obama as a Muslim for racist reasons. This is designed to tap the fear (and maybe to some degree subtle racism) that the GOP still believes exists in the hearts and souls of their political base. As I previously noted, it happened with a sheriff down in Florida (in uniform ... and thus representing his jurisdiction) said, "On Nov. 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened."
