Republicans have been testing how their use of the race card will play with the American people. Gov. Sarah Palin, now beginning to play the dirty political game like a true Washington D.C. insider, has already hinted (about trying to bring back the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy) in an article published by right-wing columnist William Kristol. Here is an excerpt from the Wall Street Journal about the potential impact Republicans are likely believing the race card could have on this election during the last month, “Cautionary notes remain for Sen. Obama. The poll suggests that the first African-American to win a major-party nomination could be vulnerable to race-based attacks tying him to unpopular black figures such as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor, and Al Sharpton, an outspoken and controversial figure. Thirty-five percent of all voters - and 40% of white voters - said those connections bother them. This is absent any candidate or party pressing hard on those themes, which Republicans have hinted they may start to raise more aggressively in the campaign’s closing days.” This is like pouring gasoline on fire for the Republicans who are slipping badly in many of the battleground states of the upper Midwest and down in Florida (crucial places to win any presidential election). How low will Sen. McCain go if he feels like he is losing this historic election to Sen. Obama - a man many people felt had no shot at the presidency a little over a year ago. Sen. McCain has shown he has nothing but disdain for Sen. Obama and has an almost stunning lack of respect for his Senate colleague who has become a powerful national political figure as a black man.
