It's good to see Sen. Barack Obama respond with strength and point out what a lot of people have been saying for quite some time about Sen. John McCain: He is clearly the one who is the out-of-touch elitist and he also is clearly the one who is erratic in his impulsive actions that have at times proven to be dangerously erratic. The latest in this line is his phony campaign suspension that was little more than a political stunt to try and look as if he was taking the high road and cared only about solving the economic crisis. This is the same McCain who said he had to hurry back to Washington and blew off David Letterman ... only to go to a nearby studio and do an interview with someone else (apparently the Arizona senator took a wrong turn and ended up in another interview). He was angrily erratic when he was challenged by the editorial board of the Des Moines Register newspaper in Iowa. He became defensive and very agitated at some rather simple, but tough questions. Sen. McCain thumbed his nose at Sen. Obama and at moderator Jim Lehrer during the first presidential debate as he ignored the rules and the requests of the moderator and refused to engage Sen. Obama or even so much as make eye contact. He looked down on Sen. Obama as if the man did not deserve to be on the same stage with him. It reminded me of something we would have seen in the 1950s or 1960s if a black man had been running for an office against a white candidate. Now, we see Sen. McCain's running mate making some charges against Sen. Obama that even the Associated Press referred to as "racially-tinged." Sen. McCain has stumbled in questions about what constitutes being rich and when asked about how many homes he owns. How many Americans do not know how many homes they own? Sen. McCain's famous short temper is legendary and it has shown from time to time even in this election. We can not afford an erratic elitist in the White House ... not after eight years of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Sen. Obama's ad has nothing to do with McCain's age (72) and more to do with his temper and his being out of touch with what mainstream Americans have to endure on a daily basis (how to keep your home, how to buy a home, how to pay off student loans, how to buy food, how to pay for car repair, how to keep the utilities on ... and so on and so forth.
